How often should you have a pedicure done?

This is but a very common question among people who simply love getting a pedicure. But as straightforward as that question is, there is no simple answer. It will depend on what type of pedicure treatment you’re looking to get.

It’s never wrong to let yourself indulge in self-care or pampering every so often. Getting a pedicure is just one of the many ways you can give your body, particularly your feet, some relaxation, and a lot of love. If you’re into foot hygiene, then a pedicure is a good treatment for you.

With a good pedicure, your feet will look and feel fantastic. You’ll most likely feel good after leaving the salon. Depending on what treatments are included, a pedicure may last anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes. That’s how long your feet will get pampered at the salon! You may love it so much you want to get a pedicure as often as you want. But really, how often should you have a pedicure done?

What is a pedicure?

Simply defined, a pedicure is a type of therapeutic treatment for the feet. If you’re familiar with manicures, then you’ll know what a pedicure is. They’re technically the same. A pedicure is a great way to care for your feet as it can help in the healing of foot-related problems, such as cracked soles, calluses, and corn, among others.

A pedicure can be delivered in a variety of ways, but it is mostly done with a warm foot bath, massage, exfoliation, and toenail trimming, shaping, and painting. Salons or spas offering this service make it extra special by using unique oils and scrubs for massage and exfoliation.

There are different kinds of pedicure services available, and you’re free to choose what treatments and extras you’d like to go with. For example, some spas will use paraffin wax to rub on your lower legs, heels and feet to soften and moisturize these parts. You can also choose from a gel, Shellac and traditional nail polish for your toenails.

How often do you get a pedicure?

This is but a very common question among people who simply love getting a pedicure. But as straightforward as that question is, there is no simple answer. It will depend on what type of pedicure treatment you’re looking to get.

You can get a pedicure once every three to four weeks if you’re considering the whole package: massage, scrub, cuticle removal, and all the work. But if it is just simple toenail cleaning, shaping, and painting, it’s safe to do it every one to two weeks.

After all, getting a complete pedicure too often may not mean enjoying more health benefits. For one, there may not be a lot of dead skin cells to remove since the last time. Your cuticle may not have grown all that much either. While it’s nice to be pampered all the time, you may not enjoy the full benefits of getting a pedicure too often.

Signs it's time for a pedicure

For sure, there are tell-tale signs indicating that you need a pedicure. It is just a matter of recognising them early so you can plan your trip at the salon as soon as you can to get your feet pampered. If you’re getting a pedicure often, then a good sign is if you notice your toenails look unevenly shaped or your cuticles seem untidy. Chipped toenail polish is also a good indicator that you need to head off to the salon.

If you’re like most people, you’ll get a pedicure as soon as you want a new shade of toenail polish. After all, that’s mostly why you’re getting this treatment. You want to walk around and flaunt your pretty toenails. Here’s a bit of good news: You can always get your nails done as frequently as you like. Just try not to overdo it with the other treatments and you’re good.

In case you don’t get a pedicure regularly, the signs that you need to look for are instances of cracked heels, calluses, corns and ingrown nails. While a pedicure won’t treat these problems right at their onset, you’ll experience a great deal of relief as soon as you get one.

Is it good to get a regular pedicure?

Definitely! There are a lot of benefits to enjoy if you get a pedicure on a regular basis. Pedicure is mainly done to promote the health of your toenails and the rest of your foot. A regular pedicure can help you avoid fungal infections and prevent ingrown toenails.

As for the rest of your feet, a pedicure can make the skin supple and hydrated, thereby keeping it healthy. Through exfoliation and massage, dead skin cells are removed, and the feet get moisturised. Caring for your feet makes them less susceptible to cracking, fissures, and callouses.

So go ahead and schedule your regular trips to the nail salon. Just be careful not to do it too often. You can get a complete pedicure monthly and the basic one after two weeks. Doing this is enough to keep your feet healthy and happy.

Can you have a pedicure too often?

Yes, there’s always that danger of getting a pedicure too often. The treatments that come with a pedicure, such as the foot scrub, could create skin concerns such as over-exfoliation when done too often. If you exfoliate too much and too often, you might be removing not just dead skin cells, but the living ones as well.

Generally, you must wait a week, at the very least, to get another basic pedicure. Basic pedicure merely involves toenail cleaning, trimming and nail polish application. For the complete pedicure service, try to wait about three to six weeks before getting another one. This will give your skin some time to regenerate before getting it treated again.

While you can’t run to the salon to get a pedicure anytime you want, you can always practice good foot hygiene from home. The simple habit of washing your feet daily with soap and warm water can do tons of good. Also, don’t forget to moisturise your feet after washing them. If you do this every night before going to sleep, then your feet will be happy in the morning.
